Key Insight III
Transforming Holistic Care into Inspiration:
How you can learn something from everyone
I was zipping down one of Europe’s largest water slides with two young campers when I realized that the entire experience in Barcelona had taken place because I had the initiative to push myself and trusted my ability to learn in new environments. I was out of my comfort zone, but this was where growth was happening.
During these experiences of language barriers, I found confidence in my ability to work with alternative communication styles. I was able to integrate this learning into my time at The Shepherd Center. I learned ways to connect with survivors of brain injuries and schizophrenia patients, and learned to trust my intuition when providing care.
